Welcome to Liberrants, a blog dedicated to editorials, discussions, and studies of all things libertarian. Don't let the title mislead you; it's merely my attempt to be creative in describing myself as a "hopeful curmudgeon" who embraces the goal of the free, peaceful, economically vibrant society envisioned by America's founding fathers. A critically thinking curmudgeon whose goal, in addition to creatively venting about the imperfect world in which we live, is to induce critical thinking in others. The ultimate goal is to help bring about a peaceful world in which we can all live in freedom.

More Hornberger Wisdom on the Imperial Legions

This follow-up to his article of two weeks ago carefully and thoroughly explodes the deeply entrenched national myth that "the troops" are fightening wars on foreign soil to "protect and guarantee our freedoms" when, in fact, the exact opposite is true.

I'm sure Jacob has received much hate mail over this and I expect to get some too for posting his viewpoint. No matter. The truth is often painful and it's long past time for America to get a painful dose of reality.

Read and heed, or read and don't heed, if that's your preference. You've no doubt read my own position as part of my comments on Jacob's original article. Regardless, I look at this as a long overdue recapitulation of the obvious that needs to be spread far and wide and hammered ceaselessly into the heads of the Koolaid drinkers that constitute the mass of America.
